News!

We just found out that we are number 24 in the line of families awaiting approval from Rwanda.

Granted, the info doesn't really tell us anything other than how many people are in front of us, but still...it's something. It's news. And since we've gone several months now without any news, this feels rather significant!

Since nobody has actually been approved by Rwanda for quite some time, we really still have no inclination of our new timeline other than that things should get moving again in the coming months. Rather vague, I know.

This info comes after a hard month. We found out recently the reason for the extended wait...Rwanda is in the process of becoming "Hague Compliant." The Hague Convention is a good thing. It's a way to protect kids from things like trafficking and other various dangers of adoption. So it's good. But for those of us in the program it also means more waiting. We don't know when the program will be up and running again. Anything is possible and we really don't know have any idea of how many months we're looking at. Also, the Hague Convention may make things a bit more strict as to who they let adopt so we're needing that much more prayer that we'll find favor with their government. Please pray!

And because of the restructuring of the program, Rwanda has closed the doors for anybody else to apply for the time being. So we're just grateful to be in at all!

In the meantime, we are focussing on raising the remaining $6,700 we still need. We're making our final push! Here's how:

YARD SALE: We're holding our 3rd yard sale on October 2nd. If your live in the Bluffton, SC area, any donations to the cause would be most appreciated! Oddly enough, October 2nd is only 3 weeks away.

T-SHIRTS: We've actually had t-shirts for quite some time and have failed to post them on our blog for sale. We'll get those up soon. Cost is $20.

COFFEE: We're still selling bags of coffee HERE! I've heard the "African Skies" blend is pretty dang good. You should definitely check it out. And remember, if you buy 2 bags, the shipping's the same as if you buy just one (hint, hint!).

ADOPTION AWARENESS OPEN HOUSE: On Monday night November 1st, we're holding a big open house at The Corner Perk in Bluffton from 6-9 to raise money and awareness for the enormous need for more families to adopt. We'll be selling t-shirts and bags of coffee, and all the money from people buying drinks will be given to us as a donation towards the adoption expenses. We can't express our gratitude enough to Josh Cooke at The Corner Perk...he is going above and beyond to help make this open house a success. Heck, we'll probably even have food and live music. We'll be promoting this big-time soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime, mark the night of November 1st as "SMITH'S ADOPTION AWARENESS OPEN HOUSE!"

Thank you all so much. We covet your prayers!
